I traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana for a work meeting in January. I went a couple days early and got a chance to spend a little time on Bourbon Street before the meetings began.

Attended a cooking demonstration at Crescent City Cooks, complete with gumbo, jambalaya and bread pudding. What a fun time!
And of course, a trip to New Orleans isn’t compete without a visit to Café Du Monde for beignets and chicory coffee.

Somehow I missed getting a picture of King Cake. Since it was the Carnival season, King Cakes were prevalent. The start of Carnival is January 6, and bakeries sell this delicious cinnamon bread through Ash Wednesday. At Mardi Gras World, they design and create the floats used in Mardi Gras parades. Most of the characters are made from Styrofoam and paper-mâché and then painted and attached to the floats. What a cool tour!
